Hyper Island school project in cooperation with Volontaire Löfbergs
We have all been together with friends that slowly fade away into their smartphones or computers. This type of behaviour creates loneliness and frustration, and prevents people from being engaged with the people around them.
We will create a ‘survival guide’ to teach people to be more actively present when they meet together and reintroduce them to an analogue experience. This digital experience will be uniquely anti-digital, encouraging people to meet, put down their devices, and interact face-to-face.
Centered around a mobile survival guide application, this guide will expose the problems related to being “lost” within your digital devices. It will encourage the user to get away from those devices and focus on the people physically around them for a while.
The tone of the application will be light-hearted and comical. We will poke fun at the absurdity of being “trapped” in one’s digital devices by showing typical scenarios in which people are sucked into the digital void. The survival guide will take the user through step-by-step animated instructions on how to be together followed by activities that they can do within their group. These activities will earn users points both as a group and individually, which will encourage users to meet. The point system will ultimately reward the user with free coffee or special offers for Löfbergs products.
Additionally, we would like to build an online platform that will collect the data from the user’s activities. The user will be able to visit this site and see how their anti-digital achievements compare to the other users of the application. This will engage the user in more long-term use.
